Let's talk about lab water
If you’ve seen our whitepapers or followed our other blog posts then you’ll know by now that different applications need different grades of water. Water gets used in a multitude of applications in the lab, from washing down your benches, to high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) or polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
One solution for all!… Whatever your application, it’s important to configure a system which you can trust to give you the right water quality and in the right quantities for all of your applications. This will not only ensure your results are accurate time after time, but will also make sure you’re not wasting ultrapure water where it might not be needed, potentially saving you money (See Budget)!
Can’t Off the Shelf do that?… While an off the shelf solution can also give you a grade of water to meet your needs, it may often be over or under specified for your colleagues. A configurable solution can take all of your applications into account; dispensing varying qualities of water around the lab from different dispense points. Need Type II for your general chemistry applications, but Type I+ for your DNA sequencing? Not a problem!
We all know that budgets are always under scrutiny in the lab. While water systems are relatively inexpensive when compared to some laboratory equipment, with a configurable system there are many ways to find a solution for any budget.
Economies of Scale… First of all you don’t have to future proof by buying everything for applications you aren’t even undertaking yet. If you’d like to scale up the volume of water you need at a later date, then you can just add another tank to increase your flow rate and storage volume.
Indispensable dispensing… Secondly you can choose from a fully featured flexible dispense with advanced features, to a fixed position model for basic dispensing needs. While some applications may find the advanced features indispensable (pun intended), others may not.
Space, the final frontier… Labs are full of equipment, cupboards are overflowing with glassware and bench space is at a premium. How do you find anywhere to fit that water system? The good news is that with a configurable system you can put it pretty much anywhere. Tanks can be hidden in a cupboard, but if you can’t find the space they can be wall mounted. The same is true of the pure water units themselves and the dispensers. You can even mount them side by side, on top of each other, or in separate locations! We’re often told how great the Chorus looks, but if you have to hide it away then you can!
Breaking down the walls… Sometimes we don’t like to see our colleagues, so we have walls between labs to prevent such unwanted encounters. At some point though you may have to pop next door to “borrow” some pure water from your neighbors system. With a configurable solution you can easily place a separate dispense on your side of the wall, to draw off guaranteed pure water when and where you need it. This means that your water doesn’t get contaminated while you walk it from one room to another, but also that you never have to talk to “stinky Geoff” again!
Isn’t It Complicated?
